COMPREHENSIVE SENIOR CHECK-UPS
R2500 (from R3410
Help identify potential problems early, before they start affecting your pet’s well-being.
Being proactive about age-related conditions can help extend your pet’s lifespan and significantly improve their quality of life.
On average, dogs and cats are considered senior once they reach 7 to 8 years of age. This varies between breeds, especially in large breed dogs who tend to have shorter lifespans (approx. 8 to 10 years), compared to smaller breeds (approx. 12 to 15 years).
What’s Included?
Our Senior Health Check, offered by our nursing team, includes:
Consultation and Full Clinical Examination
- Detects heart murmurs, arrhythmias, and pulse deficits.
- Full oral and dental assessment.
- Checks for lumps, bumps, and signs of pain or arthritis.
Blood Pressure Measurement
- High blood pressure can be a silent threat in older pets.
Blood Tests (run in-house for fast results)
- SDMA: Early marker of kidney disease.
- Chem 10 / Pre-anaesthetic Profile: Screens kidney and liver function, glucose levels, and proteins.
- Haematology (including PCV): Screens for anaemia, infection, and inflammation.
Why It Matters
Regular health checks are vital in detecting age-related conditions early—like arthritis, chronic kidney disease, and dental issues—before they cause serious problems. Early detection allows us to adjust your pet’s care plan, including diet, medication, and lifestyle, to support ageing joints and a slowing metabolism.
The Small Print
- Any dental procedures recommended during the check-up will be offered at a promotional rate (extractions not included).
- This offer is only valid for routine health checks and does not apply to pets presenting with acute illness or injury.
- Elderly patients already being managed for chronic conditions can still take advantage of this promotion.
- Additional diagnostics (e.g., x-rays or extended blood panels) advised during the consult will be charged separately.
Ts&Cs apply.

Regular Dental Scaling can prevent:
💙 tooth loss.
💙 gum disease.
💙 oral pain.
💙 bad breath (halitosis).
💙 progression of dental disease.
💙 reluctance to eat /weight loss.
💙 systemic diseases that affect the entire body.
Most pets benefit from a professional dental cleaning once a year, but some may need it more often depending on breed, age, and individual dental health.
Here’s why it’s important:
1. Prevents Periodontal Disease: Dental scaling removes plaque and tartar buildup, which, if left untreated, can lead to gingivitis and periodontal disease. This condition affects the gums and bones that support the teeth and can lead to tooth loss, pain, and infection.
2. Improves Quality of Life: Animals with dental disease may experience chronic pain, difficulty eating, and bad breath (halitosis). Regular dental cleanings help keep their mouths healthy, improving their comfort and behavior.
3. Prevents Organ Damage: Bacteria from dental infections can enter the bloodstream and spread to organs such as the heart, liver, and kidneys, potentially causing serious conditions like endocarditis. Scaling reduces this risk.
4. Early Detection of Problems: During a dental cleaning, the veterinarian can identify other oral issues such as broken teeth, oral tumors, or cysts. Early detection allows for timely treatment.
5. Supports Long-Term Health: Regular dental care, including scaling, can extend the lifespan of pets by preventing systemic illnesses linked to poor oral hygiene.
We recommend monitoring the level of tartar build up and underlying gum disease, and using preventative measures like an adequate dry food diet and regular brushing or water additives to extend the time between dental scaling (ultrasonic cleaning).
